There are on occasions systems that even the best drain surgeon can not help if the ground is just not suitable for a soak-away system, many earlier systems were discharged directly into water courses and in an attempt to clean up our rivers and brooks the relevant agencies can come knocking on your door if they have traced pollution back to your system.

For many years the only answer was to install a treatment plant however over the last 20 years several conversion systems have come onto the market, these include additional tanks you install on the outlet of the septic tank and units that sit inside the existing tank chambers.

Which ever option is used it is essential that it complies with the relevant authorities guidelines which in England is BS 6297:1983.

The units that are installed on the outlet of the tank require excavation works and a power feed, whilst the units that sit within the existing tanks require smaller excavation works to install an air line to the tank which runs from a compressor sited up to 20mtrs from the tank itself.
